Studio time is 3:45pm to 4:45pm.

Students will create fun and exciting themed projects in ceramics while learning how to work with clay. Ceramic Artist Jo Sebern’s goal for this class is for students to enjoy themselves while developing their artistic ability using the three dimensional medium of clay. Each student will take home several finished pieces and participate in a Raku firing. Classes 1 & 2 are building, classes 3 & 4 are glazing, and class 5 is a Raku experience. It is highly recommended that students attend ALL classes in order to complete the projects. Cost: $60 including materials and firing fees.

This class is intended for those with very little or no experience in operating a digital camera. Participants will get hands on experience in operating their digital cameras. This class is focused on participants who wish to increase their understanding of the basic controls of their camera. Subjects include understanding the dials on your camera, using & adjusting the menu, using the zoom lens, focusing, explaining cables & digital media cards, taking a good basic photo, & getting it onto a computer. Participants should bring their personal camera to class with a media card. Students will do hands on basic digital photo shoot on location at the school.

She has worked on staff and written produced television shows and documentaries for NBC, ABC, CBS and cable. She won a Writer’s Guild Blue Ribbon Panel Award for her episode of Northern Exposure, won many awards for her three documentaries produced for A&E and is a produced feature film writer and published book author. Adrienne has studied screenwriting at Cal State Northridge, UCLA, and with such writing gurus as Syd Field and John Truby.

Beginning Fundamentals Of Welding With Welder, Contractor And Artist John Tilton (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM)

This beginning course teaches the safe, practical use of standard welding equipment and it's applications. Electric arc and oxy acetylene gas methods will be used to demonstrate welded fusing techniques. Common steel stock, bars and plates provided, and serve as practice material for each student. Participants 16 yrs and up are asked to bring their own collected/found material, steel only, test with magnet. Proper apparel must be worn for safety such as leather shoes, cap, loose fitting long sleeve shirt and pants. Other items include welding apron, welding goggles, arc helmet (auto darkening preferably) and face shield. Limit 6 students.

This class is for those who are experienced in the digital SLR camera operations, but want to get the most out their camera. Subjects will include learning detailed camera operations such as when to use auto vs. manual settings, setting apertures & shutters speeds, ISO sensitivity, white balance, histograms, focus settings –(auto, manual, macro), image quality & size settings. A hands-on photo shoot on location at the school will assist in adjusting your camera to solve more complex photographic problems. Students are required to bring their digital SLR camera and a laptop with a digital editing program installed, such as Photoshop Elements.

This hands-on 8-week acting class is for persons with little or no movie set experience. You will learn the basic of auditioning and acting for film; how to slate, hit your mark, deliver your lines, body language, reaction to others, avoiding the lens, working with directors, agents, etc. You will receive scripts or ‘sides’ for each class and each on-camera performance will be recorded to DVD’s for you to take home and review.
Milena Phillips has been an actress for over 20 years and is a long time member of AFTRA and SAG. She has appeared in films, theatrical productions and on television in shows such as The Bold and The Beautiful, Sunset Beach, Silk Stalking, Vanishing Son, High Tide, and many other programs. Milena is co-owner and Artistic Director of Literature Alive, a reading motivation program for elementary school children. Milena’s years of experience has given her a unique ability to help other actors advance their artistic potential.

A class for the pure beginner: Experience the process of watercolors in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. This class will focus more on the process rather than product which will allow you to easily develop painting skills. Practice different techniques including brush marks, glazing, wet into wet, direct painting methods and washes. Discover ways to create surface textures using scraping tools, stamps, and resists. Gain color theory vocabulary and skills necessary for color mixing plans. Returning students will benefit from new class assignments each quarter.
Supplies will be discussed at the first class meeting. Please bring the following materials to the first day of class: 1 sheet 140 Arches 140lb cold pressed watercolor paper, 1 round #12 or #14 watercolor brush, watercolor pigments that you already have on hand in a palette, water container, 2b pencil, journal for notes.

Pastel Painting: in the Studio and Plein Air with Helen Shafer Garcia - A class for all levels
Wednesdays, September 22nd-November 10th, 1pm-4pm

Pastels are an exciting and immediate medium, which incorporates both drawing and painting simultaneously. Explore techniques and gain drawing skills in a relaxed atmosphere. Techniques include hatching, broken color, blending, and feathering and we will explore various kinds of under paintings. Still Life, landscapes and other nature inspired subjects will be investigated. Different papers or supports will be used to determine which is best for your style of painting. We will also discover effective approaches painting on location with pastel. Learn how to capture the beauty of light on location and create effective illusions with values, color relationships, shapes and edges. Along with studio time we’ll explore 2 or 3 painting locations including beautiful Santa Rosa Plateau near Murrieta. Demonstrations will include techniques, problem solving, texture methods and composition components.
Supplies will be discussed at the first class meeting. Please bring the following materials to the first day of class: 1 set of (24 or more) hard Prismacolor Nupastels, vine charcoal sticks, 2 sheets 19 ½ x 25 ½” (or a pad 12” x 16” or larger) middle valued Canson Mi-Tientes Pastel paper, support board 12” x 16” or larger, artist’s tape, 2b pencil, journal for notes. Content and concept will be approached with prose, images and text. Have your art passion awakened as you learn mixed media techniques with beeswax, acrylics and other mediums to create various embellished and collaged papers to bind into books. Learn classic binding techniques using Coptic, French and Pamphlet stitches. Explore endless possibilities and approaches for book construction. This is a great way to “repurpose” art papers, unresolved paintings, ephemera and other assorted found objects!

This open studio time gives artists a place to work together in a friendly, fun atmosphere. Come exchange ideas, discuss your works in progress, make friends or just hang out. We supply the basic set up including full spectrum lighting, easels, drawing boards, work tables, stands for still life or model set up. Artists bring your own supplies and projects.
*For 2010 register yourself for the $5.00 fee and you get to bring a friend for free!
