This beginning course teaches the safe, practical use of standard welding equipment and it's applications. Electric arc and oxy acetylene gas methods will be used to demonstrate welded fusing techniques. Common steel stock, bars and plates provided, and serve as practice material for each student. Participants 16 yrs and up are asked to bring their own collected/found material, steel only, test with magnet. Proper apparel must be worn for safety such as leather shoes, cap, loose fitting long sleeve shirt and pants. Other items include welding apron, welding goggles, arc helmet (auto darkening preferably) and face shield. Limit 6 students.
Materials: Bring steel objects (magnet test), 1/8" thickness or less to 16 ga. sheet metal. Multiples are great, parts from: cars (not from engines), machines, buildings, household items, unpainted, un-corroded. Types of welding: Arc or stick 220 volt, Mig. or wire feed, Oxy acetylene, w/ steel rod, w/ flux coated brass rod, and soldering. Cutting: using oxy acetylene torch, freehand, guides or straightedges. Finishing: cleaning, polishing, clear coating, painting. |
