After graduating with a fine arts degree in ceramics, I spent many years creating sculptural and functional pieces in clay. A move from North Carolina to California lead to a masters degree in education and over eighteen years of teaching. I was selected to teach as an “Artist in the schools” in Park City, Utah and Santa Cruz County and  had the opportunity to work with hundreds of students from kindergarten through high school to create permanent installations in their schools as well as one-of-a –kind pieces for their own collections.

My first experience with mosaics was when I attended the Society of American Mosaics conference in San Francisco in 2004. Since that time, I have been working in mosaics often incorporating ceramics into my work. I love the sensuous quality and the malleability of clay as well as the endless possibilities for creating textures. The juxtaposition of the handmade tiles and embellishments with stained glass, smalti, or found objects creates a particularly interesting and wonderful contrast in mosaics.

I am fortunate to travel often for work as well as play, however, most days I can be found in my studio creating commissions and one of a kind pieces for galleries while enjoying the sunshine and my beautiful succulent garden outside my north San Diego County studio.
