Glass art program at Fallbrook School of the Arts in Fallbrook, CA offering classes and workshops in fusing, slumping, and stained glass

Glass

Sometimes referred to as fused glass, warm glass, or kiln work, this craft involves molding and manipulating glass inside a kiln. Our glass program is very popular and has been one of our core offerings since FSA began in 1997.

We have two glass studios, a large studio where our fused glass workshops are held and a smaller one where our stained glass workshops are held. Between them, we can host up to 35 students at a time. We have two kilns, a vitrograph, a multitude of equipment to manipulate the glass, a large variety of glass and beautifully large work surfaces. Workshops include fused and stained glass, mosaic and etching.

Randall Reese is the Department Head and is responsible for the daily operations including glass inventory and vetting new instructors. Randall has reinvigorated our stained glass program since he joined our team and brings a wealth of knowledge about glass and the art of creating using this dynamic material.

Fun Facts About Glass:

Glass was first used decoratively, in jewelry and as stand-alone items, in 3500 BCE (Before Common Era) in Egypt and Mesopotamia (what is now known as the Middle East, i.e. Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Syria). During the 13th century, stained glass became popular for windows in the gothic cathedrals and Murano, Italy, became the center for glass art in all of Europe. Murano is still known for their glass today.
