Upcoming Workshops:
Our creative writing program began in July of 2024. The first class, which still meets weekly, was a writing practice, from prompts, called the Midweek Muse. We also offer a poetry class which includes a printmaking element, Poetry In Print, and as of January 2025, we offer the Foundations of Creative Writing which teaches the students how to develop a character, plot, etc. Art History is also included in our Creative Writing Department. In these classes, students learn about the history of art and artists including looking up works of art and discussing the ideas and topics of the subject. We currently employ four instructors in this department.
Fun Facts About Creative Writing:
While storytelling is as old as time, the first written storytelling was discovered around 3200 BC (Before Christ). Some of the earliest examples of written stories in the Western tradition are the Bible and Homer's Odyssey; in the Eastern Tradition, the Indian Vedas and Sanskrit poems; in central America, the Mayan Codices.
